19th Annual Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium (MISS) is organized by Global Academy for Medical Education and will be held from Feb 25 - 28, 2019 at Encore Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America.

Target Audience:
The Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium (MISS) is designed for general, colorectal, and bariatric surgeons with laparoscopic and open skills. Surgical residents and fellows are welcome at reduced rates. For the Bariatric/Metabolic Program, an interdisciplinary approach is utilized and all members of the bariatric team are encouraged to attend, including NPs, PAs, RNs, and other practice managers.

Physician Credit Designation:
The University of Cincinnati designates this live activity for a maximum of 29.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Course Description:
The Annual Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium (MISS) will offer compelling lectures, surgical video presentations, and lively discussion and debate by world-renowned experts on advanced laparoscopic techniques for managing metabolic disorders, hernia, foregut and diseases of the colon. MISS also offers a special section on Enhanced Recovery after Surgery.

Course Objectives:

Colon Program:
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

• Demonstrate an understanding of the management of benign surgical disease, including diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
• Summarize quality metrics and best practices as it pertains to the practice of colorectal surgery.
• Describe the available strategies to improve perioperative outcomes.
• Classify the different techniques of anastomotic creation and the potential ways to avoid and treat anastomotic leaks.
• Identify the different options for minimally invasive abdominal procedures including laparoscopy, hand assisted techniques, the use of the robot.
 

Enhanced Recovery:
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

• Recognize the science and evidence supporting best practices in Enhanced Recovery to optimize their patient outcomes.
• Develop a functional knowledge of core Enhanced Recovery elements, understanding how several targets vary from traditional practices.
• Summarize the challenges facing the adoption of Enhanced Recovery programs.
 

Hernia Program:
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

• List the current common techniques for inguinal hernia repair.
• Describe effective management of diastasis recti.
• Explain complications from hernia repair.
 

Foregut Program:
After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

• Recognize and describe medical and surgical treatment options for GERD.
• Discuss treatments for the patient with gastroparesis.
• Describe the diagnosis and treatment of Barrett's.
• Identify and manage recurrence of disease.
 

Metabolic/bariatric Program:
After completing this activity, the participant will be able to do the following:

• Summarize the recent research on obesity causes including genetic and biologic factors.
• Discuss the pros and cons for current bariatric surgical options for obese patients, and describe the appropriate perioperative care.
• Review the clinical trial evidence documenting the impact of bariatric surgery on cardiovascular morbidity, mortality, and risk factors.
• Analyze the efficacy of current obesity management strategies, including lifestyle, diets, pharmacology, and surgery.
• Diagnose and treat comorbidities associated with obesity including cancers, diabetes, and heart disease.
