Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)

Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)

Washington, Dist of Col, United States of America

The AAMC leads and serves the academic medicine community to improve the health of people everywhere. Founded in 1876 and based in Washington, D.C., the AAMC is a not-for-profit association dedicated to transforming health through medical education, health care, medical research, and community collaborations.

At that time, medical education was largely unregulated and of widely varying quality, leading to a lack of trust in the medical profession. This group of educators established basic practices for medical schools. The annual meeting of the AAMC became a forum for medical school deans to discuss issues related to medical education.

Mission:
The AAMC focuses on transforming health care in four primary mission areas: medical education, patient care, medical research, and diversity, inclusion, and equity in health care.
