2025 Opioids & Cancer ECHO: Whole Patient Assessment is organized by VCU Health Continuing Education.

Description:
Examine the biopsychosocial model, discuss how pain is influenced by biological, psychological, and social factors, and identify social determinants that impact health & pain management with Hope Coley, RN, BSN and Jason Callahan, M.Div., MS, BCC.

Didactic and case discussion series on a cancer, opioid, pain management, and substance use topic with discussion guided by specialist providers. Our ECHO is a virtual network of serious illness care specialists and interdisciplinary team members seeking to improve patient care throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. Our collaborators in addiction medicine and pharmacy provide insights in the management of high-risk patients.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:

Describe how individual risk factors impact pain management in patients with a history of cancer.
Identify existential and spiritual distress in patients, families, and caregivers.
Explore appropriate interventions to address total pain.
