The 2018 International COPD Conference

The 2018 International Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Conference is organized by Temple Lung Center and will be held on Nov 07, 2018 at Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is physicians, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, nurse practitioners, nurses, case managers, cardiopulmonary specialists and other healthcare practitioners involved in the treatment of patients in the diagnosis and care of patients with COPD. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 9.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Conference Description :
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) encompasses many progressive pulmonary disorders, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It is a major cause of disability and is now the third leading cause of death in the United States. COPD poses significant care and economic burdens often contributing to higher readmission rates and substantial costs of care. Since COPD is a highly prevalent condition with broad economic impacts, it presents a major opportunity for healthcare cost reduction & improved functional status. Unfortunately, significant gaps exist between COPD diagnosis, treatment guidelines and clinical practice. The first steps to bridge the gap between basic research and clinical practice are built; however further steps are required to complete the path. Interactive and high quality continuing education as applied to patient care are associated with real clinical practice changes and may be disseminated to other practices as well. It is critical that healthcare practitioners and healthcare systems identify quality improvement strategies to appropriately manage COPD patients by alleviating risk factors, both assessing and monitoring the disease, stabilizing COPD and regulating exacerbations of the disease.

The goal of the 2018 Conference is to build on the GOLD: Global Strategy for the Diagnosis, Management, and Prevention of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease document and provide all attendees with an exceptional opportunity to learn, network, share knowledge and ideas, establish collaborative projects, and discuss controversies regarding the diagnosis, assessment and management of COPD.

Healthcare professionals providing diagnosis, therapy or management to patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) are invited to attend the 3rd Annual International COPD Conference, one of the nation's largest continuing education programs for COPD, at the Downtown Marriott, Philadelphia.

A full meeting day from 7:45 AM to 8:45 PM is accredited for 9.25 hours of Continuing Education. The time for sign-in, onsite registration and breakfast is 6:00 AM to 7:45 AM - exhibits will also be open during this time period; please make sure you allow time to complete your sign-in or registration process before 7:45 AM. Breakfast, lunch and reception are included in the registration fee. Attendees have three registration options: full day, evening sessions or both!

Purpose :
This program will promote practice changes in the diagnosis, therapeutics, management of COPD patients in acute to subacute environments so as to improve patient quality of life.

Conference Objectives :
• Identify differences and similarities of Asthma and COPD including their risk factors, clinical presentation and pathophysiology.
• Describe the role of triple inhaled, dual bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroid therapy in COPD management according to the type of patients and administration strategy.
• Analyze global COPD pathogenesis, risk factors along with host and early life factors as risk for COPD development.
• Review the goals of the National Institute of Health COPD Action Plan.
• Explain how COPD can be prevented earlier and treatments effective in early COPD.
• Describe the prediction and prevention of hospital admission and re-admission for the COPD patient.
• Appraise pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies to prevent hospitalization.
• Describe spirometric reference standards in COPD diagnosis.
• Explain quantifying the symptom burden of (COPD) using MRC, CAT, SGRQ and CRQ assessments.
• Explain potential role of biomarkers in COPD.
• Describe interventional and surgical therapies for COPD.
