Fernando Martinez MD, MS

Fernando Jose Martinez, MD, MS, is the Academic Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine and the Joseph D. Early Chair in Biomedical Research at the University of Massachusetts Chan in Worcester, MA. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, and completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Boston University.

Additionally, Dr Martinez received a master's degree in biostatistics and clinical study design from the University of Michigan School of Public Health in Ann Arbor. A premier translational researcher in chronic lung disease, Dr Martinez is nationally and internationally recognized for his seminal studies in the phenotypic and functional classification, and clinical interventions in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and interstitial lung disease. He has authored 739 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 34 book chapters.

Dr. Martinez is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society, and American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. He is the editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
