Professor Pavord had 18 years of experience as an NHS Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, one of the busiest tertiary centres in the UK, before taking up the post as the first statutory Professor of Respiratory Medicine in Oxford in 2013. His main clinical and research interests are in inflammatory airway diseases (asthma, COPD, chronic cough). He pioneered the use of non-invasive measures of airway inflammation in the assessment of these conditions and used these techniques to identify several clinically important phenotypes of inflammatory airway disease. He played a lead role in the clinical development of three of the most promising new treatments for severe airway disease.
