OVERVIEW

Module 1: Test to Treat – Interpreting HER2 Tissue and ctDNA Reports is organized by i3 Health.

Start Date: June 01, 2026
End Date: May 31, 2027

Description:
Molecular testing is a critical component of non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) care, with NCCN guidelines recommending testing for driver mutations and immunohistochemistry (IHC)–based markers, including human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) (NCCN, 2026). With targeted treatments available for HER2-mutant NSCLC, optimal utilization of predictive biomarker testing with tissue biopsies and ctDNA liquid biopsies has become crucial for therapeutic decision making (Yang et al, 2022). Oncology nurses play a critical role in the biomarker testing process, including patient education, specimen collection, clinical trial screening, and communication with the multidisciplinary care team (ONS, 2022). Module 1 of this Clinical Insights Microlearning Series will explore how to interpret HER2 tissue and ctDNA reports to inform treatment approaches in NSCLC. It will feature insights from Soo-Ryum (Stewart) Yang, MD, Assistant Attending Pathologist and Co-Director of Clinical Biomarker Development in the Early Drug Development Service (Solid Tumor) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with oncology perspectives from Zofia Piotrowska, MD, MHS, and nursing perspectives from Victoria Sherry, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP®.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Interpret HER2 testing results to confirm mutation status and next steps in coordination with the oncology team.
