33rd Annual Carolina Refresher Course: Update in Anesthesiology, Pain & Critical Care Medicine is organized by the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine - Department of Anesthesiology. The symposium is held from Jun 14 - 18, 2020 at West Beach Conference Center - Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Kiawah Island, South Carolina, United States of America.
Target Audience:
The course is outlined for physicians, including but not confined to anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, pain specialists, surgeons, and internists, as well as certified registered nurse anesthetists, anesthesiology resident and fellow physicians, certified anesthesiologist assistants, and allied services practitioners.
Accreditation:
Earn up to 23.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits! This unusual and enjoyable learning experience using 30-minute lectures sessions, Speaker Q&A panels, Problem-Based Learning Discussions, and Hands-on Workshops in Point-of-Care Ultrasound, Regional Anesthesia, and Surgical Airway Skills.
Statement of Need:
Anesthesiology, Pain, and Critical Care Medicine are medical disciplines uniquely characterized by a renowned expanding field of peer-reviewed literature, with the evolving technology, and latest techniques coupled with ever-developing clinical realms of practice in which this novel information is consistent. The Carolina Refresher Course attempts to present a portion of this material in a format that features utility, practicality, and maintenance so that the content learned may be easily and efficiently implemented in the development of patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction.
Educational Objectives:
The knowledge presented at this educational activity
should advance your ability to:
• Perform new regional nerve blocks
• Evaluate basic point-of-care-ultrasound indications and understand the pathology
• Handle difficult airways and practice surgical airway techniques
• Evaluate the management of obstetric patients
• Examine pediatric sedation updates
• Execute the most current techniques in carotid surgery management
• Delineate controversies in acute pain management
• Specify the management of complex catheter-based cardiac procedures
Workshops:
Point-of-Care-Ultrasound Workshops:
The three-day workshop will include cardiac, lung and abdominal scanning and is restricted to a total of 16 participants, 4 attendees per instructor. Complimentary, but first come, first serve. You can only register for one workshop each day.
Surgical Airway Workshop:
The surgical airway workshops are confined to 6 participants each and will cover identifying landmarks and positioning for surgical airways, then hands-on cricothyrotomy using a deer model. Complimentary, but first come, first serve. You can only register for one workshop each day.
Regional Nerve Block Ultrasonography Workshops:
The regional nerve blocks and ultrasonography workshop assemblies are limited to 8 participants each and will comprise the different ultrasound scanning views for peripheral nerve blocks and associated anatomy.
