The Department of Anesthesiology employs more than 200, including faculty, residents, fellows, CRNAs, research faculty and nurses, technicians, and support staff.

Their department takes pride in robust scholarly endeavors. In addition to their several weekly departmental conferences, residents, faculty, and staff engage in grand rounds and M&M conferences. Their Department is leading in innovative research in the areas of pain expression and therapy. The Department also hosts the Carolina Refresher Course, a nationally-attended multi-day CME meeting each year, They are supported by an excellent library packed with educational resources, including core publications, ample computers, and significant online references. The library is reserved for department use only and is always open for study and research.
