Dr. Eugene R. Viscusi, MD, is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Vice Chair of the Division of Pain Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University, where he also serves as Director of Acute Pain Management. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and completed his anesthesiology residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Viscusi is board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Management and has an extensive clinical and academic career focused on advanced pain medicine, including acute and chronic pain, anesthesiology in the operative setting, regional anesthetic techniques, and care of patients with opioid use disorder.
A prolific researcher and educator, he has authored well over 100 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to numerous textbooks, book chapters, and abstracts on pain management and perioperative care, with his work appearing in leading journals such as JAMA, Anesthesiology, and Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. Dr. Viscusi’s research spans innovative pain management techniques, outcome studies, and emerging analgesic agents and delivery systems, and he is widely recognized for his contributions to the field through national and international lectures. He has also served in leadership roles in professional societies, including as Past President of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, reflecting his commitment to advancing anesthesiology and pain medicine education, research, and clinical practice.
