33rd Annual UC Davis Anesthesiology Update is organized by UC Davis Health and will be held from Nov 04 - 06, 2022 at Monterey Plaza Hotel, Monterey, California, United States of America.

Needs Assessment:
Advances in medications and monitoring technology allow anesthesiologists to continuously improve the quality and safety of clinical care. These advancements also contribute to the constantly expanding role anesthesiologists play within the patient care model. This conference will provide learners with evidence-based methods, strategies and knowledge to more effectively fulfil their role as perioperative physicians, whose responsibilities extend to patient care beyond just the operating room. 

Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia Workshop:
The proper use of peripheral nerve blocks and peripheral nerve stimulation are invaluable tools in our armamentarium for the treatment of acute perioperative pain. Application of ultrasound guidance for the performance of peripheral nerve blocks and peripheral nerve stimulation allows the practitioner to efficiently perform the procedure while optimizing safety and efficacy. As such, ultrasound guidance for the performance of peripheral nerve blocks and peripheral nerve stimulation has rapidly become the standard of care in clinical practice. 

Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop:
POCUS is gaining increased adoption within Anesthesiology and is now considered a CORE COMPETENCY for residents graduating within the specialty. POCUS utilizes various bedside ultrasound modalities for diagnostic or procedural purposes in order to enhance patient care and safety

Objectives:
By the end of this conference the attendee will be able to:
1. Predict the polytrauma patient’s risk of morbidity and mortality, and provide a framework for therapeutic interventions
2. Recognize patients with pulmonary hypertension and tailor perioperative management accordingly
3. Describe innervation to the shoulder joint
4. Describe the pathogenesis; recognize the signs and symptoms; and manage PASC
5. Monitor and optimize brain function perioperatively
6. Describe the emerging concept of multimodal anesthesia, be conversant in the relative analgesic potency of various available drugs, the potential of perioperative opioids to the opioid crisis, and apply emerging concepts of non-opioid treatment
7. Review the literature covering the risks and benefits of anesthesia type in regard to patient outcomes in various EP procedures (IV versus inhaled, MAC versus general, etc)
8. Improve competence in treating coagulopathy
9. Cite the indications for various Point-of care Ultrasound (POCUS) modalities
10. Discuss the multi-stage challenges of a unique, novel and rare anesthetic case
11. Identify multiple etiologies of heart failure
12. Discuss the differences between implications of systolic and diastolic heart failure
