Craniomaxillofacial Surgery: Orbital Approaches and Fundamentals (with Human Anatomic Specimens) is organized by AOTrauma North America and would be held during Nov 03 - 05, 2017 at Hilton Tampa Downtown, Tampa, Florida, United States Of America.
The evaluation and treatment of orbital and mid-facial fractures, and peri-orbital soft tissue injuries continues to be a challenging problem, even for the most experienced surgeons. The key anatomical landmarks within the orbit are often difficult to visualize, and the relationships between important structures remain unclear to many surgeons. This is complicated by the presence of a fragile and highly specialized structure, the globe, and its associated adnexal structures, such as the extraocular muscles, and lacrimal system within the orbit, and eyelids externally.
This Course is intended for instructional training in the operative treatment of orbit and midface fractures, and secondary facial reconstruction involving the orbit, according to AO principles and techniques. The Faculty are national and internationally recognized leaders in orbital reconstruction, and will discuss subjects covering craniofacial trauma and reconstructive surgery techniques. Lectures by distinguished surgeons will be combined with demonstrations, discussions and practical exercises. A “hands-on” approach to learning will be emphasized.
Learning Objective :
• Define preoperative planning methods and outcome analysis
• Identify the relevant surgical and radiologic anatomy of the orbit, and based on this
knowledge, be able to diagnose/evaluate common orbital/ peri-orbital bony and soft tissue injuries
• Describe and be able to differentiate the surgical approach(s) and reconstructive procedure(s) that are most effective in correcting specific orbital and peri-orbital deformities
• Recognize the common complications associated with the treatment of these conditions and their accepted management
• Assess potential benefits of an interdisciplinary approach for optimal reconstruction and rehabilitative treatment of patients with orbital injuries
• Interpret how recent technological advances can impact on the intra-operative treatment of these injuries
• Demonstrate psychomotor skills in the practical application of traditional and endoscopic surgical approaches
