Dr. John A. Carrino is an internationally renowned radiologist with particular expertise in diagnostic imaging and percutaneous image-guided intervention. He is a co-author on over 200 peer-reviewed publications in a variety of areas.

Dr. Carrino has strong interests in musculoskeletal diagnostic imaging using multiple modalities (Magnetic Resonance, Computed Tomography, Ultrasound, Radiography), image-guided therapy (IGT), medical informatics, and health services research. He has an extensive research background with previous NIH awards and also brings to bear a strong foundation in information technology. Dr. Carrino is an active participant in several medical societies related to musculoskeletal imaging, interventional radiology, MRI, and informatics. He has participated in the leadership of several national and international scientific and professional societies. He has served on the Advisory Committee of the FDA Radiology Devices Panel, looking at computer-aided diagnosis. He is a formal collaborator in the Laboratory for Imaging in Surgery, Therapy and Radiology at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Carrino received a B.S. degree in biology and an M.D. degree from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and an M.P.H. degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. He also had the benefit of a military scholarship with his payback time spent at the U.S. Air Force’s premier medical treatment facility, Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, an academic healthcare enterprise within the Department of Defense. Dr. Carrino performed his Radiology training at Yale New Haven Hospital. He is a member of the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals and an associate editor for Arthritis & Rheumatism.
