Dr. Abrahamian is board-certified in emergency medicine and has completed a research fellowship in infectious diseases. He has been involved in numerous infectious disease-related research projects resulting in publications in well-known peer-reviewed journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and Annals of Emergency Medicine. He has also written multiple chapters for infectious disease and emergency medicine textbooks and has given numerous presentations nationally.

He has been honored with a variety of teaching awards, including the prestigious American College of Emergency Physicians Faculty Teaching Award in 2005 and the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Directors Faculty Teaching Award in 2006. Dr. Abrahamian's interests in infectious diseases include animal and human bites, skin and soft-tissue infections, tetanus, rabies, community-acquired pneumonia, meningitis, and pyelonephritis.
