Eric C. Eichenwald, MD, is Chief of the Division of Neonatology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and holder of the Thomas Frederick McNair Scott Endowed Chair. Dr. Eichenwald's research interests include clinical trials, quality improvement in neonatal-perinatal medicine, epidemiology of infections in neonates, and apnea of prematurity.
He has extensive experience in conducting multicenter clinical trials, having served as a site principal investigator (PI) for several funded, multicenter randomized trials of therapies and interventions aimed at improving outcomes of premature newborns.
In addition, Dr. Eichenwald received extensive training in quality improvement methods and theory. He currently serves as PI for the University of Pennsylvania NIH Neonatal Research Network site, and co-PI for an RO1 grant on intermittent hypoxia and caffeine in preterm infants.
