Daniel Bessesen MD

Daniel H. Bessesen is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes at the University of Colorado (CU). He is also the Director of the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and the Anschutz Foundation Endowed Chair in Health and Wellness. He is currently the Program Director of the Obesity Medicine Fellowship at CU. He previously was the Program Director for Fellowship Training in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes at CU from 2007-19, where he was privileged to work with many bright, hard-working, and caring young endocrinologists in training.

Bessesen has been doing general clinical endocrinology at Denver Health since 1991, where he served as section chief from 1999-2019. He has conducted studies on the regulation of body weight funded by the NIH for more than 30 years. More recently, he has been involved with studies of anti-obesity pharmacotherapy, including several clinical trials with emerging highly effective anti-obesity medications. He is a Colorado native and spent his early childhood in Summit County, where his father was the only physician in the county.
