Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer / Institut de Recherche contre les Cancers de l'Appareil Digestif (IRCAD)
IRCAD (Institut de Recherche contre les Cancers de l'Appareil Digestif / Research Institute against Digestive Cancer) was founded in 1994 within the premises of Strasbourg's University Hospital. It pools digestive cancer research laboratories, a research and development department in computer sciences and robotics, and a training centre in minimally invasive surgery.
IRCAD has become the world’s leader in education and training in minimally invasive surgery and opened three cutting-edge mirror institutes: in Taiwan in 2008, in Barretos/São Paulo in 2011 and in Rio de Janeiro in June 2017. A new IRCAD center will open in Kigali, Rwanda, in 2019.
