The German Society of Orthodontics (DGKFO) has existed since 1908. It is the scientific society of (specialist) dentists who are concerned with the prophylaxis and correction of positional errors of the teeth as well as the position and shape deviations of the jaws.
The society currently has over 3700 members. Its mission is to promote research in the field of orthodontics, to contribute to the dissemination of German research results both domestically and internationally through publications in its journal, the “Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics / Fortschritte der Kieferorthopadie," and to collaborate with scientific societies both domestically and internationally.
To promote intensive training of its members and to maintain a close connection between science and practice, the DGKFO regularly organizes its annual scientific conferences, which generally take place in Germany, less frequently together with foreign professional societies in neighboring countries.
