OVERVIEW

Understanding the Role of BCMA-Directed Therapy in the Management of Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma is organized by Pharmacy Times Continuing Education (PTCE)

Release date: November 30, 2022
Expiration date: January 30, 2023

Description:
A large proportion of patients with multiple myeloma (MM) fail to respond to or have a short duration of response to treatment, making progression to relapsed/refractory disease an anticipated part of the disease course. B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) has emerged as a potential therapeutic target in MM, with several modalities currently FDA-approved and others under investigation. Though BCMA-directed agents have advanced the treatment of relapsed/refractory MM, they are associated with toxicities that can be severe and that can result in dose modifications, treatment delays, and discontinuation. Oncology pharmacists should be familiar with the various mechanisms and modalities currently available to best assist in the selection of BCMA-targeted therapy based on patient- and disease-specific factors. Strategies for monitoring and management of toxicities associated with BCMA-targeted agents will be reviewed. This activity also features patient counseling videos featuring interactions between an oncology pharmacist and a patient with MM that will offer participants insights into important educational points, including adverse effect management, of BCMA-directed agents.

Educational Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Compare pharmacologic characteristics of B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-directed therapies in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM)
• Explore clinical data for approved and emerging BCMA-targeted therapies for the management of RRMM
• Personalize BCMA-directed treatment for patients with RRMM based on patient- and disease-specific characteristics
• Identify pharmacist-driven strategies to optimize treatment outcomes and overall care for patients receiving BCMA-directed therapy for RRMM
