OVERVIEW

Treating Dry Eye Disease: Moving Beyond the Barriers With New Options is organized by Healio and Vindico Medical Education.

This enduring material is approved for 1 year from the date of original release, March 10, 2022, to March 10, 2023.

Activity Description:
Dry eye disease (DED) is highly prevalent but frequently underdiagnosed and undertreated. DED has a significant impact on patient employment and other activities. Although some risk factors, such as smoking and excessive screen time, are well known, numerous additional risk factors and associations with comorbidities are now considered. While traditional therapies for DED may be helpful, the need for more effective treatments remains. New treatments for DED, with novel mechanisms of action, have become available. In this CME activity, experts in the field will explore the mechanisms of action for conventional versus novel therapies as well the efficacy and safety of new therapies for their ability to treat both the signs and symptoms of DED.

Learning Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Recognize the burden of dry eye disease in both symptomatic and asymptomatic patient populations to better understand the need for treatment.
• Differentiate the mechanisms of action for conventional versus novel therapies for dry eye disease.
• Compare the efficacy of conventional dry eye therapies with newer options for treatment.
• Assess the efficacy and safety of new therapies for their ability to treat both the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.
