The Psychology of Pain: 2025 Opioids and Cancer Echo is organized by VCU Health Continuing Education.

Review general chronic pain prevalence, mechanisms, & models, review application of biopsychosocial model to cancer pain, and review patient perspectives on opioid therapy and nonpharmacological pain interventions with Taylor Crouch, PhD.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, you will be able to:

  1. Understand the limits of the biomedical model of pain and evidence for the biopsychosocial model.
  2. Describe emotional, physiological, behavioral, and sociocultural factors that influence the pain experience.
  3. Identify care and treatment implications of the biopsychosocial model of pain.
