Mental health issues among children are skyrocketing with increasing emergency room visits for self-harm and suicidal behaviors as teens are experiencing compounding effects of social isolation, discrimination, stigma, and emotional stressors. This session will explore screening, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health in the pediatric primary care setting. Parameters for mental health services provided in the context of integrated primary care will be explored, including safe conditions for prescribing.

Learning Objectives:
After taking part in this educational activity, participants should be better able to:

• Describe holistic mental health appraisal and differential diagnosis in the current care climate
• Discuss optimal pharmacologic therapy approaches appropriate for management by primary care providers, and strategies to minimize potential adverse effects to pharmacotherapies
• Describe the role of the healthcare provider in prevention, early identification, and fostering protective factors and resilience
