Activity Overview:
An estimated 21,450 new cases of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) occurred in the United States in 2019, with an estimated 5-year overall survival of 28.3%. Chromosomal abnormalities and characterization of specific mutations help to predict outcomes and are a major part of risk stratification. Recent advances in the treatment of AML are rapidly transforming the landscape and include targeted approaches, such as the use of FLT3 and IDH inhibitors. Additionally, a focus on how to best manage elderly patients who are unable to tolerate intensive chemotherapy is evolving. This program will provide participants with key information needed for pharmacists to proactively manage patients with AML receiving these agents.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Select appropriate therapy for FLT3-positive patients based on treatment status
• Identify IDH inhibitors used to treat AML
• Examine appropriate therapy plans for older patients with AML with medical comorbidities
