OVERVIEW

#7466 Tackling Breast Cancer Rehabilitation: Addressing Dysfunctions is organized by MotivationsCEU.

Description:
Rehab professionals are often treating someone with breast cancer as either a primary or secondary diagnosis. Many therapists have not had formal education on the various diagnoses and treatments for breast cancer and breast cancer reconstruction, and do not feel comfortable evaluating a patient with breast cancer and are unsure of prescribing exercise. This course will review relevant anatomy, surgical/adjuvant treatment and literature. This will enable a therapist to better assess the impairments and design an appropriate plan of care that will make a difference in the quality of life for the person with breast cancer. Emphasis will be placed on knowing when to refer to a breast cancer/ lymphedema trained specialist.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Understand basic anatomy of the breast and lymphatic system.
  2. Understand what musculoskeletal structures are involved in surgical treatment for breast cancer and reconstruction.
  3. Be able to integrate critical information from your patient’s history into your evaluation and treatment, and know when to refer to a lymphedema therapist.
  4. Identify remedial post op breast cancer and lymphatic exercises.
  5. Understand progression to exercising for fitness for the breast cancer patient and appropriate guidelines and precautions
