Description:
Rehab professionals are often treating someone with breast cancer as either a primary or secondary diagnosis. Many therapists have not had formal education on the various diagnoses and treatments for breast cancer and breast cancer reconstruction, and do not feel comfortable evaluating a patient with breast cancer and are unsure of prescribing exercise. This course will review relevant anatomy, surgical/adjuvant treatment and literature. This will enable a therapist to better assess the impairments and design an appropriate plan of care that will make a difference in the quality of life for the person with breast cancer. Emphasis will be placed on knowing when to refer to a breast cancer/ lymphedema trained specialist.
