High or low tone in the muscles interfere with active movements and milestones in the pediatric population. When tone is treated through the sensory systems, neuroplasticity will take place and new functional neural connections develop. The results can positively affect self-feeding and developmental play. Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Apply sensory techniques to increase tone in children that demonstrate low tone.
  • Demonstrate manual skills to decrease tone in children with high tone and spasticity.
  • Describe to family members techniques for home programs to advance function in the pediatric patient.
