Description:
This presentation is designed for SLPs and OT practitioners seeking to enhance their approach to implementing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). We will move beyond basic device selection to explore the critical factors influencing successful communication during play, leisure, educational settings, and social engagement. Participants will learn how to identify and overcome common barriers to AAC implementation and gain practical strategies for effective interprofessional collaboration, all while maintaining a patient- and family-centered care model. Course instruction method includes: Lecture, Picture/Graphs, Group Disscussion, Case Studies, and Question/Answers.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe factors that influence successful AAC outcomes and implementation
  2. Analyze barriers to SGD implementation through case studies and research review.
  3. Identify opportunities for increasing communication in play and leisure activities.

This is a 3-hour course equivalent to 3 CEU’s or 0.3 CEUs offered as a live webinar or self-study.
