#7324 Introduction to Contemporary Neuro- Developmental Therapy (NDT) for the Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapy Practitioners is organized by Motivations CEU.

Description:
This course is designed to be an introduction to the Contemporary Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) clinical practice model and its application to the pediatric speech-language pathologist and occupational therapists. NDT is an interdisciplinary, dynamic, hands-on, problem solving approach used in the treatment of children and adults with neurological pathophysiological impairments. Intervention involves direct handling to optimize function in the areas of swallowing, feeding, speech production, and voice. Participants will learn how positioning of the body relates to the function of the mouth, as well as simple strategies to facilitate improvement of speech and language and feeding functional outcomes. Practical application of material will be presented through lecture, video clips, movement practicum and discussions. Course instruction method includes: lecture, demonstration, videos, group discussion, lab practice, and question/answers.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the NDT theoretical principles and application in the clinical practice.
  2. Apply 2 simple facilitation techniques to improve posture and alignment of the trunk for the purpose of improvement of oral motor function.
  3. Complete 2 facilitation techniques to increase oral control for the purpose of improved speech-language functional outcomes.
  4. State the importance of cervical-thoracic alignment for oral motor functions, such as secretion control, swallowing, feeding, voicing and phoneme production.

Format: This is a 3-hour course equivalent to 3 CEU's or 0.3 CEUs offered as a live webinar or self-study.
