Intended audience:
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of case managers, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians and other health care professionals who are interested in learning best practices for optimal patient/benefit management in the areas of: blood/marrow transplantation; health and wellness; comorbid diseases; complex-medical-condition support; case management; and utilization management.

Course Description:
Topics addressed during these presentations include clinical areas such as organ and blood/marrow transplantation; health and wellness; comorbid diseases; complex-medical-condition support; case management; and utilization management.

Course Objectives:
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Compare health inequities in specific population groups and identify ways to provide culturally competent care to address health disparities.
• Define Pareto optimality and efficiency and its role in transplantation.
• Recognize the role of gene therapy in the treatment of hereditary diseases, explore advances in chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell immunotherapy for the treatment of leukemia, and identify the latest treatment and research for the management of colon cancer.
• Discuss the latest guidelines and best-practice standards for preventing and treating comorbid conditions associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.
• Describe the experience of organ and blood/marrow transplantation from transplant recipients' perspectives.
• Explore the impact of telemedicine on health care.
• State the role of metabolic surgery for medical weight loss approaches pretransplant.
• Identify treatment options, including medical management and transplant, outcomes, and social and economic challenges in the management of sickle cell disease.
• List the steps being taken in the fight against the prescription opioid abuse epidemic, including strategies to reduce prescription opioid overdose risk, and address how organ donations have increased in the wake of the opioid epidemic.
• Summarize the pathophysiology of frailty and its role in transplant outcomes.
• Analyze the relationship between obesity, diabetes, kidney disease and transplant.
