OVERVIEW

#9474 Integrative Myofunctional Specialist Certification (IMSC) is organized by MotivationsCEU and will be held from Oct 15 - 17, 2026.

Description:
Designed to build both theoretical knowledge and clinical competency, the course covers the foundations of orofacial anatomy and physiology, assessment and diagnosis of orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs), and evidence-based treatment strategies. Participants will explore how dysfunctional oral habits, tongue posture, and breathing patterns affect craniofacial development, speech, sleep, and feeding. This 28-hour continuing education course provides comprehensive training in orofacial myofunctional therapy for licensed healthcare professionals seeking certification in the field.

The course emphasizes practical interventions with guided instruction in therapeutic exercises targeting oral rest posture, nasal breathing, chewing, swallowing, and habit elimination. Special focus is given to interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating myofunctional therapy into care plans involving a therapy team, specifically occupational therapist and speech language pathologist, along with other disciplines (ENT,chiropractors, etc). This course is unique in its multidisciplinary approach, allowing participants to gain knowledge and skills to treat the whole person and address root causes and not simply treat symptoms.

To ensure clinical readiness, participants are required to complete a post-course test that evaluates their understanding of the material and core competencies. In addition, each participant must submit case studies demonstrating their ability to apply assessment and treatment principles in a real-world clinical context. This case submission is an essential component of certification, encouraging reflective practice, critical thinking, and peer learning.

Upon successful completion of the course, 70% accuracy on the post-test, and case study, participants will be eligible to obtain certification in orofacial myofunctional therapy and Integrative Myofunctional Specialist Certification (IMSC). This program prepares clinicians to deliver effective, ethical, and collaborative care within their scope of practice.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the orofacial complex, including muscles, bones, nerves, and structures relevant to orofacial myofunctional therapy.
  2. Explain normal and abnormal orofacial development, including the impact of tongue posture, breathing patterns, and oral habits on craniofacial growth.
  3. Identify and assess orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) using standardized tools, observational strategies, and patient history.
  4. Interpret assessment findings to formulate individualized myofunctional therapy treatment plans.
  5. Demonstrate correct implementation of therapeutic exercises and protocols targeting oral rest posture, nasal breathing, swallowing, and other key functions.
  6. Classify the roles of interdisciplinary professionals (e.g., SLPs, ENTs, dentists, orthodontists) and demonstrate strategies for effective referral and collaboration.
  7. Integrate myofunctional therapy into broader treatment plans for patients with conditions like sleepdisordered breathing, speech disorders, TMD, and feeding/swallowing issues.
  8. Apply evidence-based practice principles and stay current with research in the field of orofacial myofunctional therapy.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of ethical considerations and scope of practice in delivering myofunctional therapy services.
  10. Assess progress and outcomes effectively, ensuring continuity of care and compliance with professional standards.
