# 352 Handling the Rib Cage for Improved Respiratory Coordination in Function is organized by MotivationsCEU and will be held from Sep 18 - 19, 2026.

Description:
This 2-day workshop has been designed for speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists who need greater experience in focusing on rib cage activity and its influence on postural control and respiratory, general movement, and oral-pharyngeal function in terms of the evaluation and treatment services they provide. Significant anatomical/kinesiological and developmental characteristics of typical rib cage alignment and activity will be reviewed. Atypical rib cage activity in infants and young children with neuromuscular involvement will be discussed. Treatment strategies directed toward improving rib cage and respiratory musculature activity will be explored through group movement lab sessions and audiovisual presentations.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify significant anatomical and kinesiological characteristics of typical and atypical rib cage activity and alignment.
  2. Examine and compare significant developmental characteristics of typical and atypical rib cage activity and their influence on postural control, respiratory function, general movement, and oral pharyngeal function.
  3. Formulate treatment strategies to improve rib cage alignment and respiratory coordination during functional play for infants and young children with neuromuscular involvement
