Symposium Description:
A major challenge that the primary health care clinicians and clinicians focused in oncology care and prevention face today is to stay up-to-date with the rapid advances in hereditary cancer. Currently, there is limited data available regarding how health care providers determine whether their patients are at high-risk for hereditary cancer. While some guidelines exists, it is unknown when they are being used and what proportion of high-risk patients are being identified for screening and assessment in daily practice.

The goal of this educational symposium is to provide health care professionals with a systematic, multimodal education to prepare them to meet the current needs of the public. The objective of this symposium is to confer screening level competence (ability to recognize key features associated with potential hereditary cancer predisposition adequately to refer at risk patients for cancer risk assessment) to community based physicians and other health care professionals through progressive lectures accredited for continuing medical education.

Educational Objectives:
The educational symposium will ensure that the health care providers emerge with enhanced skills and the ability to improve patient care. The purpose of this one day symposium is to prepare clinical healthcare providers to:
• Integrate genetic testing advances into clinical practice
• Tailor medical management recommendations to genetic test results and/or family history
• Identify systemic therapies appropriate for specific genetic findings
• Choose appropriate genetic testing for each patient
• Determine how to integrate genetic counseling into current clinic flow
