4th Annual Acute Care and Perioperative Ultrasound Workshop is organized by Loma Linda University (LLU), David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and will be held from Sep 28 - 29, 2019 at Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa, Huntington Beach, California, United States of America. This Conference has been approved for a maximum of 17.5 CME Credits.

Target Audience:
The course directors of this workshop are adult and pediatric anesthesiologists and the course faculty includes: Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care physicians. Target audience includes all health care providers involved with acute care medicine including: Anesthesiology, Pediatrics, Hospitalist Medicine, Surgery, and Critical Care.

Description:
The focus of the workshop is to teach practitioners how point of care ultrasound can facilitate acute care management, both for adults and pediatrics. The workshop is lead by national leaders on point of care ultrasound and targets all acute care providers involved in: anesthesia, pediatrics, internal medicine, hospitalist medicine, surgery, and critical care.

National leaders in point of care ultrasound lead the workshop. Our instructors have developed a “whole-body” ultrasound examination that has been validated for its clinical utility. This examination termed FORESIGHT (Focused, PeriOperative, Risk, Evaluation, Sonography, Involving, Gastro-Abdominal, Hemodynamic, and Trans-Thoracic ultrasound) has been designed by a multi-disciplinary team of Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Cardiology, and Anesthesiology specialties. Attendees will be taught via this validated curriculum the key aspects of cardiac, pulmonary, abdominal, and hemodynamic ultrasound for the perioperative and acute care setting. The course will have the latest ultrasound technologies and simulators including: virtual reality training, pocket US devices, and a comprehensive display of ultrasound companies.

Learning Objectives:
• Basic Cardiac Evaluation (gross ventricular function, gross valve evaluation, and tamponade evaluation)
• Airway and Pulmonary Ultrasound (assessment of endotracheal tube location, evaluation for pneumothorax, and assessment of severe air space disease)
• Abdominal Ultrasound (assessment of gastric volume and FAST – Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma)
• Hemodynamic Ultrasound (assessment of volume status and central venous pressure)
• Regional Ultrasound (review of novel regional ultrasound techniques)

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.

Session Topic Start Time End Time Location Description Speakers
Airway/ Pulmonary/ Hemodynamic Ultrasound, Regional Anesthesia, Abdominal/ Vascular Ultrasound 28 Sep 08:00 AM 28 Sep 05:15 PM Participants will learn about pulmonary airway ultrasound and ways to use ultrasound to assess the static and dynamic aspects of fluid status. Additionally, they will learn about advances in regional anesthesia, abdominal and vascular ultrasound. There will be two opportunities for attendees to have hands on training with both live models to see what normal physiology will look like and simulators to determine pathology.
Ultrasound Physics/ Airway / Pulmonary / Hemodynamic Ultrasound 28 Sep 08:30 AM 28 Sep 12:00 AM
Hands-on Training (all stations have live models and pathology simulation) 28 Sep 10:30 AM 28 Sep 12:30 PM Participants will have the opportunity to practice what they learned earlier that day on live models and simulators with the guidance of ultrasound experts. Topics include airway, pulmonary and how to use ultrasound to assess hemodynamic status.
Regional Anesthesia/ Abdominal / Vascular Ultrasound 28 Sep 01:30 PM 28 Sep 03:00 PM Here participants will learn about advances in regional anesthesia, how to perform the FAST exam, how to assess gastric volume, and about vascular access.
Hands-on Training (all stations have live models and pathology simulation) 28 Sep 03:15 PM 28 Sep 05:15 PM Participants will have the opportunity to practice what they that day on live models and simulators with the guidance of ultrasound experts. Topics include vascular access, FAST exam, gastric ultrasound, in addition to practicing the other skills they have learned earlier that day.
Cardiac Ultrasound 29 Sep 08:00 AM 29 Sep 10:45 AM Participants will learn the cardiac views, how to asses ventricular and valvular function, Rescue Transesophageal Echocardiography, and the FORESIGHT peroperative POCUS exam. Lecture will end at 10:45 at which point attendees will have the opportunity to have hands on demonstrations and practice what they learned on live models for normal physiology and on simulators for pathology.
Hands-on Training (all stations have live models and pathology simulation) 29 Sep 11:00 AM 29 Sep 01:00 PM Participants will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned throughout the course on live models as well as simulators with pathology loaded onto them. Topics include cardiac views, cardiac valve assessment, ventricular function assessment, Rescue Transesophageal Echocardiography, and the FORESIGHT exam.
Optional training 29 Sep 01:00 PM 29 Sep 02:00 PM Faculty will remain for one hour to discuss Advanced Critical Care Topics (Neuro, DVT/PE Evaluation, Advanced Pulmonary, Advanced Cardiac) and Additional Topics 20 remote educationimage critiques following the course.
