Sixth Annual Minds Matter: Concussion Care for Kids

Sixth Annual Minds Matter: Concussion Care for Kids is organized by Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and will be held on Apr 12, 2018 at Union League of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is multidisciplinary clinicians and school personnel who are involved in the acute and chronic management, return to school and return to physical activity of students with concussion. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Conference Description :
This one-day conference is intended for multidisciplinary clinicians and school personnel who are involved in the acute and chronic management, return to school, and return to physical activity of students with concussion. Sessions will go beyond the basic concepts of concussion diagnosis and management, exploring models for managing students and student athletes in the academic setting. Speakers will explore ways for the medical team to partner with school nurses, school administrators and athletic trainers, addressing both cognitive and physical rehabilitation, psychological impact of concussion, and strategies for prevention. Recent advances in neuroimaging will be presented, providing insight into how neuroimaging may provide insight into concussion management. All speakers will review the latest developments in concussion management, including evidence-based practices and clinical practice models. Issues relating to the intersection of concussion with behavioral and mental health issues and their management will be presented.

Sessions will go beyond the basic concepts of concussion diagnosis and management, exploring evidence-based models for managing students and athletes in the academic setting. Speakers will discuss ways for the medical team to partner with school nurses, school administrators and ATCs, addressing both cognitive and physical rehabilitation, psychological impact of concussion, and strategies for prevention. Recent advances in neuroimaging will be presented.

• Recognize the paradigm shift of using school and the athletic training room for concussion rehabilitation
• Discuss the changing dynamic of using exercise in concussion recovery
• Recognize various outcomes in pediatric TBI
• Implement academic accommodations and classroom management of the concussed student
• Address behavioral and mental health issues as they intersect with concussion
