Emergencies in the Cancer Patient is organized by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) and will be held during Jun 22 - 23, 2018 at Mortimer B. Zuckerman Research Center, New York City, New York, United States of America.

Course Overview:
Oncologic emergencies have become a rapidly evolving field of medicine over the last ten years. In addition to the treatment of complications related to the standard and traditional chemotherapies, the development of numerous new cancer treatment modalities presents a whole new field of patient complaints that are just now starting to be seen at emergency rooms across the country. With very few dedicated cancer hospital emergency rooms across the country, patients presenting with cancer emergencies are often inappropriately diagnosed, undertreated, or often times simply referred back to their respective oncologist without resolution of their emergent complaints. We bring together specialists from across all areas of the cancer treatment spectrum in order to update & enhance emergency room providers on how to prepare for common & not-so-common emergency scenarios with which the patient could present.
Course Objectives:
• Identify & recognize the most common presenting complaints of a cancer patient in the emergency room.
• Identify current & developing cancer therapeutics with respect to their side-effects and complications.
• Recognize the current limitations and challenges that remain in efficiently addressing the emergent needs of the cancer patient
