Early Diagnosis: The Road to Better Therapies and Lewy Body Dementia Care is organized by Penn Medicine - Continuing Medical and Interprofessional Education and will be held on May 04, 2018 at Smilow Center For Translational Research, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is designed for primary care physicians, geriatricians, sleep specialists, psychiatrists, neurologists, radiologists, nurses, physician assistants, occupational and speech therapists, social workers and other healthcare professionals interested in Lewy Body Dementias. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 6.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
Conference Description:
Lewy Body Dementia Association is aiming to increase awareness of Lewy Body Dementias and the unique set of symptoms associated with the disease among primary care physicians, nurses, other healthcare professionals and caregivers. The new diagnostic criteria set in mid-2017 will be highlighted to promote early patient diagnosis and improved care throughout the disease life cycle.
The conference will provide an overview of how clinical symptoms of LBD and the resulting burden on caregivers has a direct impact on the quality of life and well-being of the person with LBD and their primary caregiver. Attendees will learn strategies to adapt to behavioral changes and compensate for changes in cognition, function and communication, as well as stress management.
Conference Objectives:
• Describe the key core and major supportive clinical features of DLB.
• Review common medication classes used to treat cognitive, behavior and motor symptoms in LBD.
• Describe nonpharmacological approaches to managing behavioral changes in LBD.
• Explain the basic underlying neuropathology causing DLB.
• List 3 symptoms that indicate caregiver stress.
