Kelvin Luk, Ph.D., studies the relationship between abnormal alpha-synuclein, a sticky protein that clumps in the brains of people with Parkinson's disease (PD), and its role in the dysfunction and death of brain cells. Using a multidisciplinary approach and in vitro and in vivo models, his team studies the mechanisms of toxic alpha-synuclein spread throughout the nervous system. His group also develops therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative disorders that target these processes.
