UCSF CME: Diabetes Update and Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism 2018

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) CME: Diabetes Update and Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism 2018 is organized by The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Office of Continuing Medical Education and will be held during Apr 12 - 14, 2018 at Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel, San Francisco, California, United States of America.

The target audience for this medical event is general internists, family physicians, general practitioners, surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals. It is expected that the participants will gain new life skills and strategies to manage these disorders. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 18.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Overview :
The Diabetes Update section on Thursday focuses on new ideas and therapies relevant to patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism on Friday and Saturday will provide the clinician with updated, pragmatic information about the management of common endocrinologic and metabolic problems, as well as insight into important current areas in clinical research. Formal presentations will be accompanied by a question and answer periods with general discussion. Clinical cases will focus on common endocrine problems encountered in clinical practice.

Objectives :

Diabetes Update
At the completion of this program, course participants should be able to:
• Use currently available drugs to control glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes;
• Utilize glucose sensors and the closed-loop to improve glucose control in their patients with diabetes;
• Combine the currently available diabetes medicines to optimize control;
• Use evidence-based weight loss treatments;
• Discuss surgical options available for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease;
• Counsel their patients on the management of their diabetes during pregnancy.

Advances in Endocrinology & Metabolism
At the completion of this program, course participants should be able to:
• Evaluate and treat bone disorders after organ transplant;
• Apply the new guidelines for the treatment of thyroid diseases during pregnancy;
• Appreciate when to use next-generation sequencing in clinical care;
• Interpret pituitary MRI studies;
• Identify the commonly encountered bone, lipid and thyroid disorders (clinical cases);
• Recognize that some lipid disorders require treatments other than the statins.
