OVERVIEW
Florida Gastroenterologic Society (FGS) & Florida Chapter (FL) - Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) Joint Annual Meeting is organized by Florida Gastroenterologic Society (FGS), Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA), Inc. and will be held from Sep 14 - 16, 2018 at Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, Orlando, Florida, United States of America.
The target audience for this medical event is gastroenterologists, gastroenterology trainees, primary care physicians, nurses, physician assistants and nurse practitioners interested in the latest information on diagnostic GI and state of the art treatment of these illnesses. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 11.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component enables the participant to earn up to 8.5 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
Conference Description:
The Florida Gastroenterologic Society's Annual Meeting is the leading event for GI professionals in the state of Florida. FGS is joined with members of the SGNA to enhance the full spectrum of individuals working in the gastroenterology field. The introduction and advances of innovative diagnostic techniques and novel therapeutics have created an exciting range of approaches to many important areas of GI disease and patient care. The Florida Gastroenterologic Society has a long history of providing advanced continuing medical education to its members. Following this tradition, we are planning our 2018 Annual Meeting to meet the growing educational challenges that practicing Gastroenterologist are facing today. The main objective of this course will be to update current clinical knowledge and processes to optimize clinical care for patients.
The topics covered in this activity will be those oftentimes seen in everyday gastroenterology and hepatology practice but will focus on specific advancements over the recent past which will provide cutting-edge knowledge regarding approach and treatment to these conditions. There will be an emphasis on a guideline-directed approach as well as an emphasis on pharmacotherapeutics in the management of common gastrointestinal disorders. These will include both hollow organ digestive diseases as well as solid organ disorders of the liver and pancreas. We will explore the role of endoscopy in a subset of disorders, carefully evaluating both the cost-benefit ratio as well as the risk-benefit ratio, and look into future endoscopic / minimally invasive approaches to the management of GI patients. There will be a special Hands-on Endoscopy Workshop to allow participants to learn on a more individual basis the performance of special endoscopic procedures by expert endoscopists. Furthermore, a special session is dedicated to quality performance in GI, both in the performance of colonoscopy and in the maintenance of electronic health records.
Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:
• Recognize the latest guidelines for screening and surveillance of colorectal cancer and polyps
• Understand the epidemiology and pathophysiology of interval cancers and the impact on clinical guidelines
• Recognize the latest guidelines for screening and surveillance of Barrett’s esophagus
• Understand the role of radiofrequency ablation for Barrett’s esophagus and post-ablative surveillance
• Recognize the latest guidelines in the approach to acute non-variceal bleeding
• Understand the optimal timing of endoscopy and pharmacotherapies in the management of gastrointestinal bleeding
• Understand the newest therapeutic modalities for the treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding
• Recognize the latest guidelines in the approach to pancreatic cystic lesions
• Understand the latest biochemical and molecular methods to differentiate pre-malignant from non-malignant pancreatic cystic lesions
• Recognize the importance of quality metrics in colorectal cancer screening and surveillance
• Understand methods for improvement of quality metrics in colorectal cancer screening and surveillance.
