Richard Bloomfeld, MD, explores novel treatment approaches for inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Through partnership with industry, he leads clinical trials nationwide to evaluate the safety and efficacy of biologic therapies for the medical management and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. After finishing medical school at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Bloomfeld completed an internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, where he developed an interest in inflammatory bowel disease. In 2000, Bloomfeld joined Wake Forest School of Medicine’s section of gastroenterology to start an inflammatory bowel disease program offering comprehensive digestive disease care.
