Dr. Wayne Tworetzky is the Director of Fetal Cardiology in the Department of Cardiology and the Advanced Fetal Care Center at Boston Children’s Hospital, an Attending Physician in Cardiology at Boston Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. In addition, he is the founding member of the newly formed Fetal Heart Society and associated multi-center Fetal Cardiology Research Network.

For over 10 years Dr Tworetzky has led investigations on fetal cardiac interventions, particularly for aortic stenosis likely to evolve to hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The purpose of these in utero interventions is to improve outcome of these children and led to multiple publications in this area and revolutionized clinical practice for fetal cardiac interventions.

His current research interests include work investigating the in utero natural history of valve disease and developing and studying in utero therapy and interventions that might modify and improve the outcome for these defects.

Dr. Tworetzky has a special interest in Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Boston Children’s Hospital takes an innovative approach to treating HLHS, was ranked number one for heart care and heart surgery in 2010, and is the world’s largest and most experienced program for fetal cardiac intervention.
