Dr. Marchand has a medical degree from the University of Sherbrooke. She then completed her residency in pediatrics as well as her residency in pediatric gastroenterology at the University of Montreal. A fellowship in nutrition, carried out at the Medical University of South Carolina, was added to his academic course. She was a pediatrician-gastroenterologist at the Montreal Children's Hospital (1995-1996) and since 199, she has held the same functions at CHU Sainte-Justine.

Dr. Marchand is particularly interested in nutrition in patients with neurological deficits, Short Bowel Syndrome as well as feeding difficulties in babies and children. She is responsible for the Intestinal Failure Program at CHU Sainte-Justine. She was a Member of the Nutrition and Gastroenterology Committee of the Canadian Pediatric Society from 2001 to 2012 and was its President from 2006 to 2012. She was Secretary and then Vice President of the Canadian Nutrition Society from 2013 to 2017. Dr. Marchand has been a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Pediatric Gastroenterology Examination Board since 2011.

Dr. Marchand has been director of the pediatric gastroenterology program at the University of Montreal since 2016 and dedicates part of his time to teaching, in particular through his participation in problem-based learning of the University of Montreal's medical curriculum.
