Tissa Hata, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and clinical service chief and director of the UC San Diego Dermatology Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. Hata completed her fellowship at UCLA School of Medicine and residencies at UCLA and Harvard Medical School. She earned her medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.
Dr. Hata’s clinical research includes several ongoing clinical trials: new biologic and topical treatments for psoriasis, and studies on atopic dermatitis, acne and acne rosacea. Her recent research is focused on the microbiome of the skin in people with atopic dermatitis and includes several National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded studies examining the effects of an autologous and a targeted microbiome transplant on patients with atopic dermatitis. Since patients with atopic dermatitis lack “good bacteria," the transplant hopes to use “good bacteria" as a treatment for atopic dermatitis.
