Dr. Thomas M. File Jr., MD is the Chief of the Infectious Disease Service and Director of HIV Research at Summa Health System in Akron. Ohio, and Professor of Internal Medicine and Master Teacher at the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in Rootstown, Ohio. After graduating from medical school at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Dr. File received his Master of Science in medical microbiology from Ohio State University in Columbus, where he also completed his fellowship in infectious diseases. Dr. File is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the American College of Chest Physicians.

He is on the Board of Directors of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases and is a member of many other professional societies, including the American Society for Microbiology, the American Society of Hospital Epidemiologists, and the Association for Practitioners in Infection Control. He has also served as a member of the IDSA and ATS committees for guidelines on community-acquired pneumonia. He is a past president of the Infectious Disease Society of Ohio and past president of the Northeastern Ohio Task Force on AIDS. In addition, he currently serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Respiratory Disease and is Editor-in-Chief of Infectious Diseases in Clinical Practice.
