Peng Thim Fan, MD, serves as Clinical Professor of Rheumatology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and practicing rheumatologist for the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. He received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba in Canada, an internship and residency in internal medicine at LA County-USC Medical Center, and a fellowship in rheumatology at UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Fan has previously served as visiting professor and lecturer in Finland, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Thailand. He has authored articles that have been published in journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Arthritis & Rheumatism, and Journal of Immunology, and has written chapters for standard textbooks of rheumatology. He is a consultant for Best Doctors of America and serves on the advisory board of the International Journal of Rheumatology. Dr. Fan was the past chair of the Southern California Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation and past president of the Southern California Rheumatology Society. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors for teaching, patient care, voluntary services, and patient advocacy including the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine "Gold Doc" Award in 2013. In April 2017 his fellow rheumatologists in California honored him with the California Rheumatology Alliance Life Time Achievement Award.
