Paul N. Thiessen MD, FRCP

Dr. Paul Thiessen obtained his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Alberta, followed by his junior years of pediatric residency training in Vancouver and his senior years at The Hospital for Sick Children. He was the Medical Director of the Intermediate Nursery at BC Women’s Hospital from 1996 to 2012 and was instrumental in establishing an award at BC Women's Hospital in 2001 devoted entirely to the care of mothers and infants with substance use issues. He was the Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Clinic at BC Children's Hospital for over two decades. Dr. Thiessen has a keen interest in international health and has done stints in volunteer pediatrics in Honduras, Ecuador, Ukraine, Uganda, and India. He has been involved with the educational activities of the Canadian Pediatric Society for many years and it has served as a member of the Board of Directors and the executive. Dr. Thiessen is also a clinical professor in the UBC Department of Pediatrics.
