Michelle S Hirsch, MD, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hirsch is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and is a practicing Surgical Pathologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). Dr. Hirsch received both her MD and her Ph.D. (in Anatomy and Cell Biology) from Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her residency and fellowship training in Genitourinary (GU) and Women’s and Perinatal (GYN) Pathology at BWH prior to joining the staff at BWH in 2004; she has been the Chief of the GU Pathology Division since 2010. Her daily clinical and educational responsibilities are centered around GU and GYN pathology and she places a large emphasis on diagnostic pearls and clinic-pathologic correlation. Her primary research interests include diagnostic biomarkers and genetic evaluation in subtyping renal and ovarian tumors.

Dr. Hirsch has published 200 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, editorials, and chapters, and previously edited the GU pathology addition of Surgical Pathology Clinics. Dr. Hirsch is an active member of the USCAP; she was a prior member of the USCAP Education Committee, and she has given multiple USCAP-related presentations (evening specialty conferences, short courses, and interactive microscopy courses). Dr. Hirsch was also the prior President of the New England Society of Pathologists and is on the editorial board for multiple pathology journals. Dr. Hirsch has mentored over 40 residents, fellows, and junior faculty members. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and has received multiple teaching awards, and is passionate about mentoring and education.
