Maxine Jochelson, M.D. is the Chief of the Breast Imaging Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Director of Imaging at the Evelyn Lauder Breast and Imaging Center at MSKCC. She is an Attending Radiologist at MSKCC. Dr. Jochelson is a graduate of New York Medical College and completed her medical internship and radiology residency at Los Angeles County Hospital USC Medical Center. She did a clinical and research fellowship in Oncologic Radiology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School.

While Dr. Jochelson is involved in all aspects of breast imaging including mammography/ tomosynthesis, ultrasound, MRI, and intervention, she is particularly interested in new technologies to improve our ability to detect breast cancer and particularly Contrast Enhanced Mammography, a technique that uses contrast to detect breast cancer in a fashion similar to MRI. This is a tool that may be particularly useful in areas where MRI may not be accessible for both evaluation of disease extent for known cancers and  for  screening women who are at increased risk for developing breast cancer

Dr. Jochelson also reads PET/CT and is particularly interested in its ability to stage and follow breast cancer after treatment. She and her colleagues have explored its use for women with earlier stage disease, even IIB so we can more accurately address their cancers. She is also exploring the use of tracers other than FDG for staging and following women with breast cancer.
