Matthew J. Pingree MD

Matthew J. Pingree, M.D., is a board-certified physiatrist and pain medicine specialist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He serves as an Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and is recognized for his expertise in interventional pain medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine, neuromodulation, and the treatment of spine-related disorders.

Dr. Pingree earned his Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed a transitional internship at St. Joseph's Hospital, followed by a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic. He subsequently completed fellowships in Clinical Neurophysiology (Electromyography and Neuromuscular Medicine) and Pain Medicine at Mayo Clinic. He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine.

At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Pingree specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic pain conditions using advanced minimally invasive techniques. His clinical expertise includes spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, peripheral nerve stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, ultrasound-guided procedures, nerve blocks, and electrodiagnostic testing. He is dedicated to providing individualized, evidence-based care that improves function and quality of life for patients with complex pain disorders.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Pingree has held numerous leadership roles within Mayo Clinic. He serves as Chair of Pain Medicine for AskMayoExpert, Director of Outpatient Practice Services for the Division of Pain Medicine, and coordinates advanced practice provider programs. He has also led initiatives in ultrasound-guided pain procedures, digital education, and clinical informatics while contributing to institutional committees focused on pain medicine, education, and healthcare innovation.
