M. Boyd Gillespie is Professor and Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at UT-Memphis. He is a 1990 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Davidson College with a BA in Classics He graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1994, and completed a residency in Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery at Johns Hopkins, followed by a one year fellowship in general academic otolaryngology. In 2004, Dr. Gillespie received a Masters in Clinical Research from the MUSC Department of Biometry and Epidemiology. He is board certified in both Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine.

During his professional career, Dr. Gillespie has focused on the care of patients with head and neck cancer, thyroid tumors, voice and airway disorders, swallowing disorders, and sleep apnea. He was one of the first 4 surgeons in the United States to perform endoscopic salivary surgery and is currently the busiest endoscopic salivary surgeon in the U.S. Dr. Gillespie was involved in the education and training of many of the surgeons in the U.S. who currently perform endoscopic salivary surgery. He is currently writing a textbook on salivary gland-preservation surgery that will be published by Springer in 2016. He has published over 120 academic papers including one published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2014 on hypoglossal nerve stimulation therapy for sleep apnea. He has been an invited guest professor at numerous institutions including Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, Yale, Emory, Georgetown, the University of Erlangen-Nuremburg, and Oxford.
