Michael Anthony (tony) Pogrel DDS, MD, FACS, FRCS

Dr. M. Anthony Pogrel is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, specializing in head and neck pathologies, temporomandibular joint surgery, orthognathic surgery and the use of lasers in surgery. In addition to treating patients at UCSF Medical Center, he conducts research on new treatments for oral and maxillofacial conditions including problems with facial nerves and salivary gland tumors.

Dr. Pogrel received his dental degree from Liverpool University in England in 1967 and his medical degree from Aberdeen in Scotland in 1974. He completed his training in general surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery in Great Britain, Holland, and the United States in 1979. He joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California San Francisco in 1983 and was made Professor and Chairman of the Department in 1994 - a position that held until 2014. He remains a part-time professor within the department. He is a Professor Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California San Francisco.
